I would need a D1-8 backplate presumably. Does anyone know how the collet chuck mounts to the backplate, – looks very much like it is a threaded mount
The one to which you originally linked, sold by homeandworkshopmachinery, is a chuck with integral backplate, a one piece construction. No backplate needed.
The one in your photo above is for an L-series taper not the D1-8 Camlock that you have. It will not fit your machine. I linked to it merely to show the collets. I did not realise he was selling the chuck as well, so sorry if that has lead you astray. His price is very good for both chuck and collets.
For sure, the chucks were made with integral D-taper, integral L-taper and in a backplate-mounted version. There may also have been other mounts.
If you are interested in this style of chuck, please read the literature available on the Rotagrip and Pratt Burnerd America sites.
