Hi does anyone know if their is much difference cleaning a boiler ready to weld using Citric acid or sulfuric Acid.

Mine is clean in most places but some area's difficult to get at are black.

Some of our club members recommend sulfuric acid as supposed to be a lot better.

What are your opinions as i can get either but at moment using the Citric Acid

I much prefer sulphuric acid as I do find it does a better job and quicker. I do use citric as well though but mainly for cleaning injectors and fittings.

It is diluted 50 50 what is the best mix or better to use as strong as Possible.

Hi Ron, between 5% and 10% is normally recommended for Sulphuric Acid pickles, acid added to water, never the other way round.

This is much weaker than battery acid which is around 30%.

Have you thought about bead blasting the areas effected.

                  Regards
