Hi all. I can’t find the thread but I’m sure someone posted about an unidentified tool that turned out to be a tailstock mount knurling tool.
I’ve just bought one with no knurling wheels and need some information. It has the look of a miniature 3 jaw scroll chuck with an angled knurling wheel on the end of each jaw. Made by Miller of insbruck it’s marked quick ST.
Photos to follow but if the type rings a bell I’d love to hear from you.
        Best regards Mick

Apparently this is a Quick STR 00 knurling tool.
If anyone has any information or suitable knurl wheels please let me know.
            Best regards Mick

Does anyone else see a potential project involving a set of soft jaws and circular silver steel blades?

Good gravy! There is one on eBay currently and the price is quite steep at ?380!!!
The wheels look similar in size to the ones in the box of spares that came with mine but they don’t fit on the screwed holders. Am I missing some sort of bush?

What project are you proposing Neil?

By the way this tool dealer is closing down completely in the next few weeks and selling off their stock. They have one if those optical drill chucks on a Morse 2 taper if anyone is interested.
                    Best regards Mick

Well it doesn't look too difficult to copy

Am I right in thinking these Knurlers do not form by compression but by being fed forward and they cut?

There is a video on YouTube of a modern version cutting a knurl. Very quick and really crisp diamonds.
Cutwell in the UK do new wheels but they cost a bit. The scroll chuck part is really well made and the knurl is presented at an angle not radially as one might expect.
I will set it up and take a photo.
                            Best regards Mick

Cutwell contacted by email at 4pm. Rang back in less than an hour with advice, catalogues and the right wheels for this tool. They will have To be ordered from Germany but the cost will not be prohibitive so I’m happy.
Can’t wait to see the results and post here for members to see.

As a post script, whilst surfing e pay for wheels that might fit I found one lot of 3 single wheel cut knurlers with 20 brand new wheels from Germany. Purchased so we will see what arrives, they are still made by Quick tools and sell for over 300 pounds. I paid a lot less than that so I'm hopeful they will be worth getting.
