      HI out there,

anyone pulled a stepped pulley "J" head quill feed to bits……

I dont want to tear everything down, are there any short cuts ?

been looking for a manual on the net…can anyone recommend anything better than a parts manual…..it does help but not quite all the info I need……

my quill won't power feed….been this way since I bought it…..there are no horrible noises at any time……

the quill up/down selector works and when the machine is running the drive collar that would be behind the fine feed crank wheel does turn and if u grab it tight it still turns…again no funny noises…..I guess the woodruff key or the drive gear is stripped…..

any help with used parts…have checked out in the US and new stuff is very expensive…………

      hope somebody can help….

      many thanks Frank in France

          Hi Frank,
Here is a link to a manual that may help you.

          Les.

            Frank,

Don't want to appear negative but do you need it ?

Reason I ask is I have had 3 Bridgies and currently got a Warco WM40 clone. All three of the bridgies either didn't work, work correctly or broke very soon after being repaired causing me to just stop using the feed.

The book specifies that it should not be used for drilling anything greater than a 3/8" drill which is a joke. They say it's just for fine feeding when boring.

Over the years and I do a lot of bearing housing boring I have replaced the lever quill feed with a large handle and because of the circular handle I can feed at what ever rate I need and still get a good finish.

The WM40 works OK as it should being nearly new but again I don't use it.

I know of a few people, John Moore, Bogstandard is one, who uses one of the Align power feeds on the knee and uses this instead of the quill.

              Hi Frank,

We have these at work but the feed wheels have been removed to stop the apprentices fiddling with them.

I seem to recall that there is a spindle in the centre of the wheel shaft that needs to be either pushed or pulled (can't remember which) in order to engage the drive.

Otherwise the wheel just turns with no quill drive.

Edit, Yup, just had a look at the manual above, section 2.2  – Automatic feed  item v. Select feed direction 'C'

Hi guy's, thanks one and all…Paul the photo's were great…

can't understand why they all seem to have this trouble…..I'd have thought this design prob would have been fixed early on…….

I'll have one go at repairing it, if it breaks again I'll go the John Stevenson route…..any chance of a photo John….

it was because I to have a lot of boring to do and thought perhaps I'd get a better finish when on auto feed…..

                  thanks again…

                  Frank in France…..
