I have a single phase Boxford AUD MKIII but the speed plate is missing. Can anyone post a picture of this or let me know what the speeds are please.

I have tried to post this to the Boxford Yahoo group, but until you are know your posts are moderated, after several attempts over a month I have given up trying there.

          Hi Baldric,

I can’t help you directly at the moment but the guys at Boxford are very helpful, I’ve had quite a lot of information from them about my own Boxford CSB and a Boxford miller I was involved with once.  Some of the old guys still work there and have a wealth of knowledge about the machines.

          Hope this helps

          Terry

I have the BOXFORD    Know Your Lathe manual for the AUD and model ‘A,B and C’ lathes, and there is no mention of spindle speeds.

I have an AUD,  and will put the tacho on it  tomorrow if you like.

Incidentally, the above manual explains screwcutting, thread sizes, morse tapers, pullies in its 116 pages

              Hi Baldric,
My AUD is 3 phase and (I think) a MkII, it is 4 1/2″ certainly and it’s speed plate gives 210, 340, 540, 850, 1400 in direct drive and 40, 66, 105, 165, 270 in back gear. I can take a photo if you need it.

              Cheers, Andy

                Andy,

That sounds exactly like the information I need. I assume the motor on the 3-phase and single phase machines run at the same speed, if so you have answered the question.

                Thanks,

                Baldric.

Just been outside to the workshop.  Yep,  my model ‘A’  AUD – III- 18993  has its original speed plate as follows:-

                    Un-geared   1400  850   540   340   210
                    Back Gear      270  165   105     66      40

Having checked a few speeds with my rev counter, they are in the right ballpark,  with a fast seed of 1406 (282 back gear) and lowest were 228 (44 back gear).

The model ‘A’ has the motor in the cabinet underneath the lathe bed.

                      Hi Baldric,

PM me with an email address and I can let you have an electronic copy of the Boxford book and a link to a site with reference to the Southbend on which the Boxford is based. Plus other info that might be useful.

                      Regards

                      Terry
