I have a bar which may be similar; it's marked:

          BBPW-508R 702

Might this lead you to the tip type?

PS NB mine is 8mm in diameter but the tip is indeed tiny. So, possibly "506R"?

Look up trigon inserts. WCMX0301-SMALL BORING-BAR CARBIDE INSERTS -SUMITOMO.QTY5.

And see if they look similar.

I thought mine were triangular and by chance came across the above and realised they weren't!

            Cheers Michael.

I have looked for Hoybide without much success. The only likely looking candidates for your inserts all have proprietry codes which is no help at all if the original Hoybide information is missing. The shape is a combination of T and W type inserts which means that no common inserts will fit.

Unless somebody on the forum already has that H6 FR boring bar and knows the insert code, I fear you will be unlucky.

Have the used cutting corners just been ground off or is that the true shape ?

Here's a photo of an unused tip for the Sumitomo bar I referenced above:

The squares are 1/10" in size.

Ring Jenny J B Cutting Tools she will probably know exactly what you want, a very helpful lady.

Would a triangle insert fit in that pocket.

And he could be helpful to her if he does what Mr ega suggests and finds information on the bar.

A Google search for 'BBPW-508R' produces a myriad of useful results including insert codes.

Last year purchased some Hoybide tips, the vendor informed me that Hoybide has been integrated into the 'Total Carbide' group.

Having said that, memory was stirred, as part of the purchase came several cutting tools, including one –
Komet boring bar "BOO 35310", 70mm long, major dia 7.98mm on round portion, across flat 7.47mm, reduced portion with one drill-type flute 6.38mm. I couldn't find such a small torx key but a spare tip overlaid coincided and measured 6.06mm in digital caliper jaws (like measuring 50p coin only with six sides )
The box of tips marked Hoybide Ltd 'PD05 200802 SW/P25M'

Thanks for the very helpful link. It looks as though my inserts are WB 0601.

I wonder whether this tip would fit your Hoybide bar. I could send you a worn insert from my Sumitomi bar for comparison if you are still struggling.

after reading all the posts and following your links I'm thinking the insert is WBMT thanks to all

When you find a source of inserts, compare the price against the £15 that a bar and 10 inserts would cost on line.
