I've wondered if some sneaky sites are actually programmed to open twice (or more) in succession when you go to them to deliberately cause this effect. I think that's probably possible and if it can be done, I'm sure someone will do it.

      Sid,

Have a look here [it's also worth reading the comments]

… and there is a live demo on the viralpatel blog.

(I'd put ' Backspace ' in carets and it disappeared. What a super editor.

        .

        Sid,

That's because the editor allows the insertion of raw HTML code.

Here is an example: on the Demo line, I type ABC followed by a series of "backspace in carets"

        Demo: ABC

… if that works as I think it does, you should see only Demo:

… but if you "Quote" my posting; then watch the grey strip as you select various parts of my text, you will see the HTML.

        (I hope this works)

        .

Edit: sorry, the demo didn't quite work, I was hoping it would delete the ABC

          .

I've just realised why that didn't work as expected …

Backspace is not a valid HTML tag; so "backspace in carets" is treated by the editor as just an empty pair of carets, so it disappears.
