Vitrex make a 300mm tungsten carbide version, to fit a standard hacksaw. Some forums suggest they are great for steel and even stainless.

A hardware store should stock them. Also wall and floor tile suppliers (used to cut curves in tiles)

Proper Abrafiles have long been out of production. Permagrit do a similar item but the attachments are much larger so you lose the Abrafile's advantage of being able to cut internal shapes from a very small incision. Opening in the market for a savvy entrepreneur? (Semi-pun intended)

I have a few here and as I don't use them much these days I can spare some. How about you pm me your postal info so I can chuck a few in the post for you. Postage seems to take about 2 weeks these days from OZ so if that isn't a problem they are yours.

I've bought some spiral saw blades from these guys in the US and they cut much better than an abra file did and the blades seem to last well. I've sawn some 3/8" black plate with one without a problem.

They go into a special coping sawframe or there are longer ones that go into a standard hacksaw frame.

They do have clips on theends but you fiddle them off to thread them through a small hole.

Not that cheap, (about $6each) and I paid a bit of import tax to UPS, but a great solution to any direction cutting.

This is a copy of an old post relating to Abrafile replacement which might be of interest.

While browsing in Axminster I saw their Japanese Free-Way Saw and was taken by the very thin spiral blade that is available for it. The problem was that the blade had a chunky loop at each end to grip it in the saw frame. The loop is crimped to the blade with a small diameter boss not unlike the diameter of the bulbous ends of the Abrafile.

On one end of the blade I trimmed off the loop to leave just the boss. I then replaced the non handle end of the saw body clamp with a 7mm square 36mm long section piece of steel with a tapped M4 hole in one end. At the other end I milled a trough (12mm) to take the boss and a lead hole/slot to suit the blade diameter.

The blade mount is fastened in place with a M4 cap head and washer and the blade is tensioned as normal by revolving the handle.

The blade stroke length is reduced to around 4.5" but that aside the blades are quite aggressive on brass and aluminium.
