Perhaps his collets are the same as mine, only available in 3mm or 1/8", and larger of course. I just use carbide milling cutters for drilling,

Why do you need 25mm flute length to drill through 3mm brass. Sure the longer flute length will make them more prone to breakage???

Sorry i misread i thought you were using 25mm drill flute length,which seemed odd ,usually around 10mm.

I'm not sure if this is relevant to the breakages but small drills need to be run at very high speeds to get the best from them.

I'm just mentioning that because having a thicker shank may not solve the breakages, it sounds like it may be deflecting from too much downward pressure, relative to it's drill tip cutting capability at lower speeds.

Thats the problem, "good quality" and "inexpensive" don't usually go hand in hand The APT will be good quality, may well be made in teh far east but to a high standard.

I have a superb supplier local to me (UK) for most of my special needs (usual disclaimer).

They list the sizes you state and their stock is comprehensive, all online, or drop in if local.

I've had good service from these people: Phantom. They seem quite happy with small, irritating orders. I was after a selection of one off stub drill sizes. Placed an order on the website on a Sunday and a jolly lady rang me up on the Monday to apologise and say they were out of stock of a couple of items and would I mind waiting till Wednesday for despatch? I just went for the basic HSS but Co steel and carbide are also options.

They seem fine, look nicely made and finished but only time will tell. I think they are good enough for my use – I decided to take the plunge and get a set of stub drills to match my (controversial?) tapping table. They worked fine on the bronze boiler bushes I made yesterday (as did my Carbon Steel taps ).
