Yes as the other Jason hinted provided you have a Digital or Digital Plus Paper subscription you can download the Pocketmags Offline Viewer. Once installed this will then show all the magazines you have bought since this became the way digital mags were available as a weak image. You then need to click on any mag that you want to download which it will then do and the downloaded images will be a full strength image. ( need to be online for this)

You can then open the viewer when you are offline and look at the downloaded magazines with pocketmags viewer which is better than the one via this website.

As it sbeen a long series I'm not sure if all the installments will be covered but the latest ones certainly will be.

Just to add to the above and following a PM or two between me and Louis

You also need to be registered with pocketmags and have activated your subscription.

So anyone else who has a digital or digital plus paper subscription would be well advised to do this ASAP as I'm 99% sure you can only download issues from the date you activate pocketmags not the date you took out your MTM subscription.

OK guys I'm missing something here.

I've downloaded the app, registered with pocketmags and logged in. I can open the magazines I have access to on this (ME) website. How do I get the magazines I've already paid for into the pocketmags viewer without paying for them again?

                  As I said above.

"I'm 99% sure you can only download issues from the date you activate pocketmags not the date you took out your MTM subscription"

I assume you have only just activated your subs on pocketmag? Once registered and logged in you need to go down the side to "activate subscription"

You can save articles one page at a time from the "Digital Issues" on the web as follows:

Install a pdf converter such as Cute PDF for Windows. This will add a pdf printer to your list of installed printers.

Open the required magazine and select the page to save.

Right click on the page and select print. Select the PDF printer and print – et viola!

                      Russell.

                        Jason,

I think I now understand what is currently on offer [although the definition of some expressions has changed as the business model has matured].

I do, however, have one remaining concern regarding the Terms and Conditions [paragraph from Clause 11 quoted below] … all seems reasonable except for that closing sentence.

Could you please seek clarification? … Is this just cautious wording, or should we expect to see another change in the "product"?

I realise that you cannot speak on behalf of MTM, but perhaps you know whom to ask.

                        Thanks

                        MichaelG.

Thanks for pointing me specific instructions. However, using my ME and MEW subscription numbers doesn't work and i get the message

This Subscription is not active. Please contact help@pocketmags.com if you think this is an error or need assistance.

Despite one subscription expiring in 2015 and one in Feb 2014. I've emailed the help link above.

                          We'll get there.

Michael, I'll contact Katy and get clarifiocation but from what was said in te long thread about digital archives it would seem that this will only be available for a limited time which I expect will be until all existing subs taken out before then expire.

Doubletop, let us know how you get on with Pocketmag help. Myself I can't say if your MTM number will work as I got my digital access partly as a perk of being a mod but mostly so someone could help with queries who had actually used the system but it is a 10 digit number that you need.

                                Jason,

Thanks for this, but I don't think that other thread discusses my present concern.

I am aware that [for "paper only" subscribers] access to the "Online Archive" has been flagged to be withdrawn in July 2014, and that we are being encouraged to upgrade to "Print plus Digital" with its obvious benefits [from the time of subscription onward].

What concerns me is the final sentence in the paragraph that I quoted earlier.

i.e. MyTime Media reserves the right to withdraw this archive without notice.

That appears to be a blanket statement relating to what is now known a the "Online Archive", and not specific to any level of subscription. Sorry to labour this but: There is a very big difference between withdrawing [certain subscribers'] access to an archive, and withdrawing the archive.

Hope that makes sense … Happy to discuss it "off forum" if that's preferable.

                                MichaelG.

I agree with Michael … I am currently a 'Paper' subscriber, but have access to the online archive (until my renewal)

I spend approx. 50% of my time away from home on business, so the online archive is essential for me. (Since I have the company laptop with me when I travel, I use this to access the archive … but I CANNOT use PocketMags as I am NOT allowed to install any programs or download non-approved data)

When I renew I will have to take the Paper+Digital option, but I will seek a written assurance that the online archive will continue for at least another 12 months. (No assurance .. No renewal)

                                    • Regarding Michael's question on removal of the Online Archive. This is cautious wording – it may be removed in the future, but we currently have no plans to do this.
                                    • For 'Doubletop' I have checked with our subs bureau and he only has a Print Subscription (he was originally a 'Complete Package Subscriber' ) – this means that he will continue to have access to the Online Archive until July 2014 (because of us honouring the access granted to ‘Complete Package Subscribers'  , however he has never been entitled to the Pocket Mags downloads. To access these, Subscribers must be either a Digital Only or a Print + Digital Subscriber. If he would like to upgrade he can do so by calling our subs bureau on +44 1858 438 798 and quoting the code UPGP.
                                    • The code that is entered in the pocketmags app is the MTM subs number.

                                      Interesting

My ME subscription was renewed around August/September 2012 for three years to October 2015. I haven't intentionally changed my subscription type so when was I downgraded from "Complete Package Subscriber" to "Print Only"?

I guess that the critical date is when the announcement was made that the digital archive would be withdrawn in July 2014. I would imagine that July 2014 was chosen to allow existing contracts to expire, without consideration of handful of long term subscriptions. If this changed happened after subscriptions had been paid MHS are changing the terms of the contract without directly informing the affected subscribers.

No doubt this is all covered by some legal gobbledygook buried somewhere in some obscure page on the website that constitutes "communication", also defined in the same gobbledygook.

Thanks for this … Your comment [Katy] is much as I expected; and I do understand the reasons why MTM's legal advisors might like prefer such cautious words.

I spent much of my working life drafting and negotiating Contracts … and "reservations" like this are very familiar … to the extent that they tend to "jump off the page" at me when I read through the document.

With apologies if this causes any offence: Hardened by experience [and with fond memories of Francis Urquhart] I do tend to be rather cynical about statements like "we currently have no plans to do this" … All too often they are what we call "Weasel Words" and they are only fleetingly True.

Nothing Personal … it's just that I've been there before !

I was always taught that marketing was all about "KISS" and making something so temptingly irresistible that the punter had no compunctions in chucking his cash at the product.

I have no intention of seeking legal advice which might tell me what is being offered here or what I might expect to get from the publishers – either now or in the future – OR – whether I should part with my cash. I know the answer to that and until things are clearer on digital editions my answer is NO!

You folks at the top may believe your butts are tightly covered with your "corporate speak" but you are wrong – we can still hear it dribbling out!

Perhaps the most "complicated" aspect is this little gem [from your linked page]

[quote] We will also be honouring the access granted to Print Subscribers as part of the 'Complete Package' Subscription. Given that my "Complete Package" Subscription is paid by quarterly Direct Debit, I would assert that my subscription will not "expire" until I choose to stop my Direct Debit Instruction. … We shall see.

Once the files are off the site ( I guess in july) ..then good luck getting
                                                    the service.
But yes contractualy your terms would have need to be varied…but I am sure there is a clause for that in your original t and c..

                                                      Likewise;

I'm guessing they have a problem with their left and right hands. They've sub contracted the subscriptions, website, digital content and nobody at MHS is assessing the impact of decisions being made with the various subcontracts. Rather than just sloppily assuming that everybody would have to have renewed their subscriptions by July 2014 they only needed to do a query on the subscriptions database to establish how many existing long term contacts would still be in place at that point.

                                                      Pete
