This tool came in a collection from a workshop clearance. Can anyone identify it and explain its use please?

The straight arbor is 2 1/8" long x 1" diameter with a 5/16" bore.

The head is 2 1/4" diameter with a 1/2" bore 1 1/2" deep.

The 3/16" HSS has an angled end but no side or top clearance.

Fine adjustment of the two rollers and HSS is by releasing the clamping nust and using the knurled screws for fine movement.

There may be a makers mark, or it may be an owners stamp, which you can just make out in the second picture but it is not clear enough to make any sense.

I think it's effectively a combined 'Steady' and cutting tool … for rapidly reducing the diameter of [Brass] rod.

It looks like a box tool, used for running down repeat jobs from the tailstock.

The rollers are a steady.

Looks like a turret roller turning box probably to fit a smaller capstan lathe

Sounds like a roller box, often used on Capstan lathes. Used as described by MIchael, with a suitable tool bit can be used for any material.

It's a roller box from capstan lathe it's the same as I used on a Herbert 2D. It turns a plain diameter and supports the rod turned and gives a slight burnished finnish as it cuts with the end of an angled carbide brased cutter.

You can always rely on the folks on here so thank you all for your help.

A search on Turret Roller Turning Box brought up quite a few images of similar tools so thanks again for your help.

,My very good friend and time served precision engineer once said to me, I have just what you need!!, I said, whats that then? and he said" It's a chip stream roller box" and I said WTF is a chipstream roller box" and he said "Just what you need" The last laugh was on him as it sold on Ebay for £180.00!! It is for reducing the end of a round bar , usually to threading diameter , on a capstan lathe, and in truth, I had no use for it whatsoever, but he wanted rid of it!
