Advice needed, I have just taken delivery of a new milling machine and would like to know what is best way of removing all the protective coating that is on the table and slides?
Hi Orville welcome to the forum. I use paraffin to wash waxie protective coating off followed by an a wipe with a paper towel and then I use an cloth damped with slideway oil to wipe over bed, slideway and metal parts. Don't forget to lubricate leadscrews and slidways etc. Also clean inside the spindle with a clean cloth after removing any protective.
I cleaned my machines more or less as David, I used an odorless lamp oil instead of paraffin and a plastic card to scrape away the coating, then wipe with a paper towel before applying slideway oil.
Orville, what machine have got and do you need any further information as there are many members willing to help if you need. Also were are you based as it helps other members if they are nearby to help or where you can get local information from.
I’ve bought machines from Axminster, Record Power and Warco and they didn’t require any cleaning other than a quick wipe over. Where did you get yours from?
