I like Castrol Magna BD 68 for slide ways and general heavy oil lubrication jobs. Its not quite as sticky as a pure slide way oil. According to the Castrol Tech Rep I spoke to before deciding to use it over 20 years ago its dual rated for lower speed bearing use too. Lets me standardise to two oils, Magana and Castrol Hyspin AWS 32 for spindle and general light oil jobs. Magna strings impressively if put on change wheels but doesn't hang onto debris the way greases and near grease oils do.
Great oil can oil for Honey Doo jobs like door hinges and the like as will flow in, slowly, but when its in it's in for ages. Do the gates every couple of years whether they need it or not. WD 40 lasts about a fortnight before the mice get vocal.
I'm sure there are other makes with oils of similar properties. Really brand is more a matter of what you can easily get is suitable containers. I go through 5 litres of each every couple of years (ish).
