Does it have to be plastic?

Well, I was proposing to glue it together using solvent cement, so that requires plastic. I'm not competent and I don't have the equipment to weld aluminium. I suppose I couild glue it together with araldite, but I don't think that would be as strong as solvent cement. Is there a better way to neatly join white finish aluminium tube?

      Thank you – Rowan

Metal can be glued quite permanently.

I seem to recall Rayleigh glueing bicycle frames together at some point in the past. I forget the 'why?' now.

      Look at 'engineering adhesives.'

I've a threaded sleeve glued to a shaft, that thus far has performed as well as if i'd not been feeling lazy & had made it all as a single unit.

I'm sure others have far more experience on this sort of thing.

OK maybe I should make it easy for you.

See the results of this link

        ABS square tube

Can you make it even easier, Mark? As far as i can see, your link leads to suppliers of square tube, not rectangular as requested by the OP. He specified 20 x 40mm or 25 x 50mm tubing. I have to admit I haven't explored all your search results, though – life's too short!

            **LINK**

I was trying to gently point out that there seems to be a lot more variety in ABS rather than PVC.

I do know that the original requirement was for rectangular tube but solvent welding squre is a possible as earlier postts have suggested.

The pack price on the above link is a little high but it does at least indicate that the product exists.

            regards Martin

Thank you. That supplier has already been suggested by David George in the fourth post and rejected by Rowan on grounds of quantity and cost. He only wants 2m. I suppose he could approach them and ask for the name of someone who's bought 75metres of the stuff and beg a couple of metres from them! Or maybe even a 2m "sample" from MKM – good luck with that.

I'm bowing out of the discussion at this point. ……..

What about this https://www.plumbingforless.co.uk/ventilation/ducting/flat-channel-ducting-225mm/manrose-234mm-x-29mm-slim-ducting-flat-channel-1m-grey-1501 and some careful work with a sharp knife? I'd say the edge sections are about 29 * 60 mm.

The heading says grey but the description says white.
