Special steady to allow me to skim 0.04mm off the inside of my drawtube – I made it too close a fit, it will jam up if I get it anodised as it is.

Don't get it. To steady an inside skim I would expect some kind of 3 point jobbie. Maybe I have had another TIA, my brain has become unreliable face 22

Did a bit more on the eccentric assembly for my vertical cross, cleaning & polishing, threading the valve rod, replaced M2 bolts with M2 studs on the valve chest body fastening points, general piddling about., Ahhh! calmness & quiet , apart from the radio & the kettle boiling.

The outside of the tube is turned to a near-mirror finish, I didn't want to run a steady on it.

I've just done a 75mm tube, far too large for my 75mm capacity steady in any case, the internal one worked OK but I woudln't want to take heavy cuts.

I might 3D print some 'large diameter noses' to fit over my rotating centre for external cuts on tube.

Went OK, but a bit scary when parting off an d it started howling – 2mm of aluminium had built up on the insert surprise

Collapsed in the workshop on Sunday – no warning, just my wife asking me what was wrong ! Sitting in hospital with all the fantastic medical attention is good – at least I'll get chance to catch up on the ME reading backlog !

Checking what exciting offers ebay has in the way of bikes/cars and wondered across this listing. Should I be concerned with the buy it now prices? Or do I lack the ability to trust others?

Hi MichaelG You are correct, all listing have vanished or are no longer accessible. Most had 99p starting prices. and the listings included a beautiful flat tank Sunbeam and other desirable vehicles all with £3000 'buy it now' prices. And the man from ERNIE failed to call tonight as well!

We have an elderly Peugeot 206, amongst other vehicles. Having left her locked away for a couple of weeks found battery dead again, has been slowly dying for a wee while now.

So, bit the bullet and ordered a replacement battery from "Car Batteries Online' yesterday lunch time at about half what Halfords were wanting for a same spec battery, or 2/3rds cost of their cheapest and lower spec battery, and at 08:10 this morning there it was, delivered to my door – can't ask for better service! Just hope it does what it's made up to do, but it has a 5 year guarantee anyway so…….

                                      Hi Spurry

Keep an eye on the tapers where they rest in the holes in the stand. I did one in ply (yours is MDF?) and the acids in the wood started to pit the tapers. I solved it by lining the holes with sticky backed green beize and I doubt if it mattered a jot in terms of fit but it does make them look less than lovely.

Wood is really usefull around the workshop but you do have reallise it's not always chemically inert. (especially woods like oak)

Bought a Linksys EA9500 wifi router from Amazon on Tuesday that finally arrived yesterday. Not cheap (but "only" £230 vs the RRP of £340!!!). Luckily I paid £2 extra to have it delivered "next day" – not sure what time zone they are living in but I had naively assumed they were talking about mine.

It plain refused to connect to the Domestic Manager's Samsung ultrabook despite it being a modern 2.5GHz / 5GHz device. It connected to the "guest" wifi but that only allows access to the internet and won't allow use of the printer. Nothing in the documentation tells you anything useful like that. The DM wasn't impressed last night and it cost me an hour or more of fruitless buggerage.

The box claims "3 year tech support" but the number they give in the booklet is an 0871 number charged at 10p/min. Finally found an 0330 number but after 55 minutes listening to them crowing about their award winning tech support service, I was losing the will to live. Finally, as I was preparing to return the thing, some guy answered and managed to get it going for me. Talk about last minute….

Linksys used to be a good outfit (part of Cisco) but it seems they were bought by Belkin and some smartass thrusting MBA has clearly spotted a means to reduce costs. I hope he got a large bonus out of it.

                                        What a PITA that was.

Thanks for your comments Martin. I did ponder for sometime as to what size to make the holes. Settled for 26mm to just catch the bottom of the taper. In these particular holders the holes could be somewhat bigger so the tools settled past the taper, but that would be no use for the ordinary collets, as they would just fall though.

The material is water resistant mdf as I find that a lot more stable than the ordinary brown stuff, especially in an unheated workshop. Excellent point made about oak, diabolical for steel tooling.

Bob Jepp, you must have set a fashion which I followed. I collapsed in the bathroom on Monday evening, with very low blood pressure, and spent Monday night in hospital being poked and prodded, and wired up to some amazing bits of kit. Was declared OK after a scan, but I hit several hard and unyielding things as I collapsed, so have a cracked rib. Can sit and stand in comfort, but it's the transition from one to t'other that stings. Anyway, let's hope all goes well for you. Very best wishes.

                                                    Mike,

You have my sympathy. A few years ago, I fell and cracked a rib and was prescribed codeine for the pain. The problem is that codeine makes you very constipated and, when you do need to go, straining against a cracked rib is particularly painful.

In the end, I ditched the codeine and lived with the discomfort of the cracked rib.

Hope you were prescribed something different and don't experience the same as me.

Get well soon (and the same to Bob).

                                                    Regards Tom

                                                      Oh Mike,

I hope other forum members aren't going to follow your and Bob's examples!

One small thing to be grateful for – a cracked rib heals faster than tearing the muscles between, a strange example of where it is better to do more damage!

Anyway, I hope you recover quickly and fully.

                                                      Neil
