The bulb on my Warco VMC light has blown it says on the lamp head 24v 25/50W JC34A.

Are there any local places where you can find a similar bulb have tried places in York with no luck I thought maybe a lorry factors might be a possible source any suggestions apart from contacting Warco.

          Windy,

I think that JC34A is probably the model of the Lamp, not the Bulb

Can you find any markings on the actual bulb ?

          … or photograph/describe it.

Don't know about Warco stuff but I get bulbs for my lathe from local commercial vehicle place.

If its the silver drum style unit I've used a halogen projector bulb to repair for a friend. Don't recall if I had to do any modifications to fit it. This one was on a Chevalier mill so I can't be sure that its an identical lamp but, as I recall matters, it looked the same as a Warco one of appropriate vintage. Bulb would have been all glass with two pins on the bottom. Probably similar to A1/220 on this page :- **LINK** as, in those days I had a stash of such things.

                  Hi Windy,
Does the lamp look like this ?

img_1307 (small).jpg If so it may be a 25 watt bulb. I have bought rwo of these lamps and both had 25 watt bulbs in them. This is what they look like.

Note the light fitting in the picture has an LED panel fitted at the moment to try out.

                  Edit.
                            I have just found this source for 24 V 50 W bulbs.

                  Les.

                      Hi Rex,
The lamps in your link are 12 volt Windy needs the 24 volt version. When I bought the lamps shown in my last post the plan was to use 12 volt bulbs when the 24 volt ones failed as these can be obtained easily. (For example Screwfix, Toolstation and I think I have even seen them is some of the Pound shops.) 12 volt lighting transformers are also easy to obtain and relatively cheap. It may even be worth Windy changing over to 12 volts if there is room for the extra transformer in the control box on the milling machine.

                      Les.

It may be that the machine is consuming lamps fairly quickly.

The safety interlocking on my lathe runs on 24V, and so does the worklight The light on my lathe needed a new lamp every few weeks, and 24V 50W Q H lamps are like hens teeth around East Anglia. (Eventually, I managed to buy several lamps from the supplier of my lathe). After that, I stripped the worklight and filed two diametrically opposed (about 8mm) slots on the outer edge of the "reflector", to improve ventilation. Touch wood, no more lamps have failed, in the last nearly ten years or so.

it is possible that the light on the VMC is a similar unit, and may benefit from a similar modification.

You could probably source a replacement lamp from Warco or Chester, since my lathe is a look alike of the BH600 / Craftsman. (I would buy a few, to be on the safe side)
