Hi All. I am thinking about buying a 150mm rotary table. Vertex would be my first choice and comes out at about £160 for the basic table.

Warco are doing this one HERE for £129 plus all the gizmos which seems too cheap.

Does anyone have any experience of the Warco product.

      Many thanks, Nick

          Hi Nick,

I have one, bought last year.

Until now, I've been quite happy with it, although I have not placed any huge demands upon it either.

I think it represents reasonable value for money.

Hi Nick I bought one, does all I need for the price I can’t fault it.

It looks a very good price, Nick

… Perhaps they should submit one to MEW for a review and 'teardown'.

Mine's OK too – except I paid than that more for it!

I would get the Vertex. I've not yet been disappointed with their quality.

Looks almost identical to the Soba HV-6 I bought several years ago. They seem to have changed the handle and added the oiling point, otherwise no difference. I have had no problem with it. The tailstock is a useful accessory.

Same as any other brand name just a different name on it. Same as my 4 T slot Vertex from 1999 except 8".

Would most likely be down to the actual build or batch made in whether any good, touch wood mine gets serious abuse used daily approx. 9 revs. Twice have had to strip down and oil since 1999.

Downside is the 4 T slot, better with 3 or 6 slots as can use T nuts to mount chucks easier, mines drilled and tapped in to RT.

I bought a 6" Soba rotab from Warco some years ago. The rotary movement was very stiff and I returned it to them for a new one which has proved satisfactory.

My experience, and Warco's reputation, is that they are helpful in such instances. My advice would be to buy it in person and check it there and then.

I have a faint recollection that there was a mistake in the Soba instructions; can anyone remind me?

The table has tight spots when rotate it with hand wheel disengaged

the shaft the hand wheel is on is bent

the chuck that came with it takes 2 hands to turn chuck key and supplied chuck mounting plate holes only 2 of the 4 line up

and along with nothing been deburred

apart from that it’s ok for a door stop

To elaborate my request for help, I think that somebody had spotted a misprint in the Soba index table. Does this ring a bell anywhere, please?

I see that my table cost £117 in January 2011.

I have one, have had it for a while. It's seems very good value for money, it is VERY big, so I haven't made a great deal of use of it over my home made one, which is rather smaller, but useful for bigger jobs that just fit on my mill!

Thank you for your trouble, this is indeed what I had in mind save that it was Vertex not Soba.

Some good advice in the thread concerned although it would take some patience to cut one tooth and do a dummy 360 deg run on a gear with a lot of teeth (might save some gnashing, of course!).

The Vertex HV6 used to be supplied under a number of different marques. The one supplied by Myford looked just like mine, with a Myford badge instead of Vertex.

The spreadsheet was made up to cover the errors and omissions in the Vertex HV6, with a 90:1 ratio.

The HV 6 chart could be used to check that supplied with any other 90:1 ratio table, as long as the Division Plates are the same, in terms of numbers of holes.

If your table has a ratio other than 90:1, amending one of the formulae from 90 to the ratio of your table should result in a set of readings for yours.

I am not a mathematical genius, far from it, so it should be easy for anyone else, as long as you can use EXCEL.

I’m mildly amused that most seem to rely on tables. Once a circle on the plate has been selected (it must be a factor of the tooth count required) the total number of spaces in the 90, or any other number of, turns is a simple calculation – followed by dividing by the result by the tooth count of the gear required, to find how many holes need to be moved per tooth.

I always sort out my own rounds and spaces by calculation, as it is more reliable than relying on someone else's table.🙂 OK, I often just work out full and part turns separately, without the aid of a calculator, but the result is the same. I don’t cut that many different gears anyway.

Won’t make any difference as to which Nick buys. We don’t even know if he would be using ‘all the gizmos’ for gear cutting or just expecting more for less money at the same quality.

I have two older (Taiwanese) Vertex tables – one has three slots and the other four. I think I prefer the 4 slotted one – simply because it offers more clamping options. Nothing more.
