I have read – some time ago – an article in MEW, or was it ME! Thearticle was about Using O rings, and designing for their use.

I have used the on-line search engines, and looked at the MEW published indexes, and I can't find it!

Would anyone know where it was published?

      Thanks in advance.

      Alan

There was an article in issue 156 (Autumn 2009) of MEW on page 15 about using "O" rings. I don't know if that is the one you are looking for.

          Les.

Can't answer your specific question but "Model Engineer's Handbook" by Tubal Cain has a useful section on designing for O-rings, plus lots of other information on a wide range of topics of general use to the model engineer. Might be worth buying.

I used the Model Engineeer Handbook for the O rings on my flash steamer and found Tubal Cain sizes work well.

As now on with a large flash steamer have found on the web plenty of O ring dimension articles to help my project.

On the model doing a water pressure test it was about four thousand pounds on my generator a pump 0.25" silicone O ring extruded maybe not designed for that pressure or too mch pump piston clearance.

You try to learn through cock ups not to do it again.

Thanks Les, you are on the mark! That was the article!

Thanks also to Clive and Windy as I didn't know about that source of information. I shall get a copy and learn.

                Thanks again,

                Alan.
