      Hi All

Just got 3 of these to clean up. Have not seen these before, something to do with screw threads if the German  is correct? The “fixed” anvil is spring loaded and operates the dial gauge.

At “rest” the needle sits at 6 0’clock

I would love to know the exact use of these and how they are operated please.

      Cheers, Martin

I don’t think it helps much, Martin …. but my favourite translator comes-up with:

        Tooth-wide
Fine -handed meal screw size 1

Technical German is usually pretty logical … but that defeats me for the moment.

It’s a comparator micrometer. Thimble is locked and you get a deviation indication on the DTI. Button under thimble should move the “fixed” avil away to insert part. The red indexes are settable for pass limit use with semi-skilled operators. The large contact fces are for soft material or to prevent surface damage.

          Robert.

Google translate on “Zahnweiten-Feinzeigermeßshraube” gets me the response “Tooth width micrometer”.

Presumably set to dial zero using a reference standard (gauge block?), then moving the fixed anvil away and inserting the tooth to be measured gives a plus minus indication of deviation. Red markers are allowable error?

Here is a current similar model without the disk anvils but downloadable instructions.

Often used for measuring across spur and helical gear teeth, or in the OPs case for making comparative measurements on gear teeth.

That price is probably quite reasonable for a company manufacturing very high-grade products where specifications and tolerances really do matter.

Could explain why HPC were quoting £125 +VAT for a 25T x 28DP gear last week. I suppose someone has to pay for them to be able to measure the gears. 😂

Tony Pratt: Rest assured that mine will be a LOT cheaper than that….. 🙂 when they get to EBay!

Having now looked closely at them it is apparent that the build quality is very high as one would expect from Zeiss.

Once again thanks to all for the help.

                          Cheers, Martin

Some models, seemingly identical to Martin’s are also labelled as Steinmayer (Feinmess).
                            https://www.feinmess-suhl.com/en/company/history/

I presume the labelling changed as the various company divisions were separated post re-unification.
My own one is labelled as Carl Zeiss
