Just wondering if anyone has been down the TouchDRO route in the UK.

It being an American system, the ‘clever’ bit of the system has to be bought from the USA – the Read Out and Scales can be purchased in the UK, but the bit that links all the bits together and makes it work comes from the USA and cost about £200, with shipping costs of £25.

What I was wondering was what experiences had been found with the system, was it worth the costs over say a ready made UK DRO kit complete, and how much custom duties did the American bit generate.

      Thanks in anticipation,

      Chris

It appears to be an adaptor that interfaces standard scales to an Android tablet, plus an app for the latter.  They publish details of how to build the adapter using an esp32 board. You could easily build your own?

The app is available apparently for free from the Play Store, I just installed it on this tablet. It might be usable on an old Android phone.

Yes. Had one on my Chester mill running through a 7″ Android tablet. Worked really well.  As JasonB said there are plenty of posts in the forum and many YT videos.

And the app works on this Android phone too though of course the display is smaller.

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Actually looking at this it’s pretty cool! I fitted a 3 axis system from Machine DRO 2 or 3 years ago and it works well but building the TouchDRO one would maybe have been a better option.</p>

Hi Chris, as John mentioned the ESP32 adapter can be built for a parts cost of around £20. I built this one with a 3D printed enclosure to read three Chinese capacitive scales. Andrew.

RotarySMP is in the process of installing one on his grinder, that might be worth checking out.
