Many weeks ago I tripped and fractured my wrist which has still not healed. On my last visit the Doc mentioned inserting a screw if necessary. My thoughts turned to what thread was used on such items, perhaps BSW –  ‘Broke Stupid Wrist’ or BSF – ‘Bl..dy Stupid Fall’.

Any ideas of the correct answer?

They are not a standard engineering thread. More like a constant diameter wood screw as the thread needs to cut into the bone when they are inserted. For hernia repairs the screw looks more like a corkscrew and is inserted with a ‘gun’. There are a wide range of different medical screws depending upon application, so difficult to speak in general terms.

Fractured scaphoid by any chance? I’ve done it 3 times, it’s very painful and slow to heal. If the fracture is displaced and not fixed then half the bone can die and then you are in a bit of trouble.

They only removed the one that locked the Fibula to the Tibia … all these are still in place. … They refused to give me that one as a souvenir 🙁

              Hi

complex history but I ended up doing a job on the Titanium spinal frame that was retrieved with someone’s ashes, so maybe your descendants will get the screws.

Hopefully, Keele University will get them, along with the rest of my remains, for whatever educational purposes they think fit.
