            We used to use split morse taper holders with tangled drill of the required length. Expensive as tang sizes change as drill sizes increase so require a number of sleeves. Cheaper to use collet holder or simple chuck.

              I tend to use a cut off wheel and shorten well used ones. It is usually the first couple of inches of flute that is worn.

              If I am only "rough" drilling I will sometimes grind the drill a bit one sided to cut slightly over when the flutes are showing wear, tends to stop the rubbing.

                Thanks chaps might go looking for old ones at autojumbles etc and cut them down.
