My Meddings had a few small holes in the table when I bought it,I filled the holes with plastic padding and its been ok for fifteen years, though with all the holes in the drill in the photo,it may bee better to screw a steel plate to the table, gauge plate would be ideal but would probably cost a fortune,a piece of bright mild steel about 8mm thick would be ok.One company where I worked had a Pacera drill ,nice machine, for the occasional long job ,a piece of steel plate about 18 inches by 10 was used as an auxiliary table, secured with two studs and wing nuts.

I think I'd get a bit of hot rolled plate, maybe 8 to 10 mm. Depending on the size of the table I think about 8 Allen Head countersunk screws around the edge. Either cut out the slots, or drill and tap some holes for clamp bolts, or what ever you feel like. If you dress the edges well, you'll hardly notice the false top.
