‘Quick’ advice on knurling tool :)

I have scored a quick LA/KF knurling tool from the bay.

here it is at enormous cost. I need some rollers. Can anyone direct me to the type for a bog standard diamond knurl. I may be doing titanium so I thought

Just been looking on google,quite a bit there, had a look through a catalogue, very interesting. The rolls are made from poweder metalurgical high speed steel, they require special bushes and side cheeks, and that tool of yours will knurl fron 1.5 to 12 mm dia, the pitches are; 0.3/ 0.4/ 0.5/ 0.6/ 0.8/ 1 mm. The rollers are 8.9 mm dia. Ian S C

Thanks Ian. yes, other than finding it needs a decent flow of coolant to wash the cut material away I am not sure how to use it. It seemed an attractive alternative to form knurling. it was a lot less than €880 !.

I wonder if the bushes and side cheeks come with the rollers.

From your photograph the side cheeks and rollers appear to be there. The 'Knurl Rollers' on the site appear to be priced each (I presume you have clicked on to the English translation of the page) without any additional parts.

BTW the prices are in Swiss Francs not Euros and as Switzerland is non EU, UK VAT would have to be added to the prices. So a pair of knurls from the manufacturer would be around £46 +VAT.

So , in laymens terms the pitch is going to determine how far apart the high points of the knurl are ?.

What about the angle ?, – they seem to be 90 degrees or 15 or 30 left and right. Is this something to do with the set up angle on the lathe ?. If so , how will it affect the knurl ?.

At last I have sourced the knurling wheels. In putting them on I have upset the (very complicated) set up for adjusting the wheels.

But there are no isntructions for setting it up.

I have two problems , the screw in the side of the main body (arrowed) is stuck and has a narrow shallow slot.

once I get it out I am not sure how to reassemble it so the rotating the adjuster nut works with the cams on the knurling wheel sleeve.

Hi,

As Switzerland is not in the EU there is no VAT but you will have to pay import duty which is usually sorted out by the courier and you once it arrives in the UK.

Royal Mail has a very good online system for payments when I have stuff come from the USA.

A bit fiddly with the size of the tool I have; maybe yours is somewhat bigger.

Why did you strip it ?

The wheels just fit on the ends of the axles.

It's a bitch of a job to get these back together and timed up, as you feed the worm shaft in it rotated the axles so you have to set them 5 teeth advanced to start with.
