Parvalux motor with gearbox

I have just been given a Parvalux electric motor with a right angle drive gearbox.

Can anyone suggest a practical use for this or should I stick it on fleabay?

Depends on the power output and gearbox ratio. Maybe it could be used for a power feed for a mill table?

You don't tell us the size of the motor, but it sounds like a Telex machine motor I once had. I took off the gearbox, added a pulley, and used it to power a small drill sharpening machine. Could be the basis of a grinder mounted on your lathe's cross slide?

I used a Parvalux 240v 1400 rpm squirrel cage motor with the gearbox removed to drive a Perris lathe before I went 3 phase. I know overkill, but I got the motor and vfd as part of a deal. The Parvalux is now driving a little pillar drill. My drill sharpening machine is driven by the motor off a diswasher pump. Never throw anything away!

Just expanding on Duncans' post, the diddy sized ones are a popular choice for sensitive drilling set ups as per the George Thomas pillar tool.

Some universal ones run at 4000 rpm – good speed for a 4" or so tool grinder. A lot depends on the motor power and type.

We used 100s of small ones to rotate rotary transformers for voltage stabilisers, 16V field + 8V armature DC 50/100:1 gear box? sort of 8" end to end.
