I have just inherited a tool box, can anyone identify the lower item in the picture. The front part is sprung loaded and the writing says 3 ATE 217.

What would it be used for.

Fred is the logo on the to CVA? If so could be a tool holder of some sort for a capstan lathe, 3rd pic down

Please forgive the digression, but that 'H Drive' installation for the CAV lathe looks very tidy.
