Although listed as a Boxford I think this is a Hercus.

And here is a marking gauge for our friends down under.

Lol. The bit that got me, with the lathe attachment, was that the unsure charlieonechop was able to determine it was in 'g/condition' (is that good, great or grubby?). I'll hang around and see what it goes for.

It seems I am not the only one that doesn't read all posts every time Bazyle but this is a short thread.

I did realise it's a Hercus 'cause the photo's are upside down. I can pronounce cud or boxford upside down. I just don't understand how the people in Oz can read or remain on their feet. Surely they should fall off.

I'd have to be mad to take it on but I am at times. The way I read the listing I assumed it had been run so asked about the gears in the headstock – no idea was the reply. If I'd bought it to restore that would the only thing I would look at closely.

Worm drive on the motor, and what appears to be further reduction to the headstock.

 I'm annoyed with myself for even looking at the Churchill. If it was closer I would go remove the headstock cover and take a look. As if I haven't enough to sort out already.

A few years ago I purchased a model diesel engine.

It was listed in 'Toys and Collectibles' as a 'MOD' engine. So I took a look.

It was an Oliver Tiger Mk III factory modified, very collectible and ideal for racing vintage team-race models.

The only markings on the engine lugs were 'MOD' .

I was the only bidder.

I just hope the buyer doesn't turn up here – then we will see a grown man cry…

He's a business seller. Just under 10,000 listings. Ebay is a different world for people like that and for some that list a lower but still rather large numbers of items. It's why some things get listed over and over again just so that they can get some idea of what they will get for it and also to make as much as possible.

If perish the thought some one did want to buy the best option would be to contact and talk price. Or go take a look as that's often used as a way of reducing ebay fees when people are selling lower numbers. I have Meddings drill that was priced at a level where it was unlikely to sell – all well and good for the seller if it did. Seems it fell over and was damaged so the listing ended.

The drill. The sellers decided that they needed an industrial one but it's fine for me but I can understand their attitude.
