Hi,

My main hobby is actually the collection and renovation of old cine equipment – I have a website, http://www.cinerdistan.com.

A reasonably equipped workshop is an essential aid. I have a Harrison 11", a generic modern vertical mill plus stuff like a bandsaw, sander and now a folder. I have had to learn everything I know (fairly limited) from books and trial and error – it seems impossible to get trained nowadays. I am retired, over 70 and in relatively poor health. Fortunately Covid has largely passed me by so far, as lockdown is not that different from what O would normally do. Any questions I ask in forums are going to be simple for most of you I suspect.

I have a small collection of home movies and equipment (Standard 8mm and 9.5mm) passed down to me over the years, and one day hope to make a Raspberry Pi-powered film to digital convertor. One day….

You might like to search for Moviestuff, an American company who make (hugely expensive) digital transfer machines – I own part of a Mark One, now increasingly obsolescent.

Hi there, Martyn,

A good few years ago, I sold a Specto 'Analytic' 16 mm projector to a collector who lived somewhere near Corsham, Wiltshire. He had two hobbies (and a very indulgent wife! ). One hobby was to collect one of every Specto projector, the other to collect one of every communications receiver made by the Hallicrafters Corporation of the USA.

I wonder where his collections are now?!?!

You probably know but I'll state for the interest of other readers: the Specto 'Analytic' projector could be set to project at 16 fps, 2 fps or still. When the last setting was selected, I seem to remember the lamp brighness was reduced.

Hi Martyn,

Spent a large chunk of my life freelance in the film industry making commercials, pop promos and features including the 1st Harry Potter.

Somewhere I have some old Eyemo cameras used for "throw away" shots in explosions, tanks rolling over them etc, also an ARRi 2C Sound Blimp.

God knows where they are but I do not remember binning them!
