MIlling Machine Tripping RCBO

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice. I am going to keep testing and trying to trace the fault.

I will check the pot again on DC.

About testing the mains – I will take the precaution of not coming into contact with the multimeter when the power is on. Should I just take a reading from any power outlet in the house?

If I run out of options further down the line and am looking at replacement parts there are two boards in the machine. The speed controller –

I saw this one on eBay and wondered if it would be suitable, it`s very reasonable price wise.

I am guessing I wouldn`t need the second board if I were to use something like this?

This one looks even better. Just connect mains in and then connect to the motor? £70

Obviously I would need to rule out any other problems first, but if this would work it would be an easy solution for me.

Remember that tripping due to the earth leakage function of a RCBO can only happen if there is a current path to ground/earth. Any circuit area without a ground connection/contact cannot cause it.

Of course, a current spike through the L and N lines could trip the breaker function, but is unlikely in circuitry without also causing obvious component damage. But you never know…

Neither of the two controllers you have shown links to are suitable for your mill. They are for universal motors and you mill has a brushless DC motor.  Additionally they are only rated for 220V not 240. Additionally they don’t have approriate safety approvals.
The second PCB you show from your mill appears to be a Filter and low voltage power supply.
Slightly worring is tha the first PCB, which is the brushless motor driver, is showing signs of having beem exposed to moisture.
I think you need a copetent engineer with correct test equipment to investigate exactly what is going on. I’m about 200 miles away so a bit far.

Thanks for all the advice Robert. I managed to find the exact same driver PCB on Aliexpress for £56 and I ordered it. I also got a potentiometer at the same time. If I fit them and there are still problems its got to narrow things down significantly. Hopefully all will work. I will update the thread when I have received and fitted the parts. Thanks to all who have given their time to contribute advice is has been very much appreciated.
