Amongst the now too extensive "From the Archives" lurks a new article .

A Simple Scratch Guage. Trouble is it just peters out after just one page colliding with another article on the Boxford BUD which lacks a starting page!

Not proof read obviously prior to hitting the print button.

Now that the thread has started [thanks KWIL] …

The ‘Home Made Precision Optics’ [Optical Centre Punch] article contains a couple of oddities, which I must have overlooked the first time:

On p30, col.3 : “Acrylic is not quite so easy to machine as Perspex”

On p31, bottom : “A good view showing the inked cross-hairs”

Both of these statements need explanation/justification/context

since the contents are over 25% from previously published material (including at least 1 that is on this forum ) I guess little proof reading was thought necessary – distinctly poor after Feb’s issue (the last pre covid) – I would have thought that editing + proof reading were almost ideal home-based jobs.

I always thought Perspex was a brand name for Acrylic, the same as Delrin is a brand name for Acetal.

Oh dear. I find no problem with pages 13 and 14

read it again….photos 3 and 4 (of a boxford) are referred to in the final paragraph of the article on the scratch gauge ….which appears to be complete.

Sorry guys, yes, what I could not see was why suddenly photos of a Boxford appeared which did not relate to the article Title, except for note at end!! Must be all this stop at home business causing senior moments.

Except that I would have expected Photo 2 to have shown some evidence of the 3mm wide flat filed along its length. Other than that, I agree with 10ba12ba in that there is not much wrong with the article, indeed I am thinking about making one for my self.

Do I read that correctly, you are speaking about something in MEW issue 295???

The last issue I received was 293, May 2020. Something lost in transit, how long should I wait before taking action?
Waiting too long, and the leftovers are on the recycling skip.

                        Regards,
                        Hans
