Does any one know of a source of supply for Littlejohn lathe drive belts. I was at a friends today ( without a computer) and was aghast when he told me the cost of a drive belt. for his Littlejohn lathe. He said there is only one known supplier here in UK, surely there must be more than one supplier in UK., what about Europe, before we ????. John

          John,

It might be worth trying Tony Griffiths at http://www.lathes.co.uk I believe he sells these belts. He may of course be the supplier your friend has located!!

They are rather special being as close to the top surface of a Vee belt as possible to remove the effects of drag on the lower section when running in expanding pulley halves.

          Regards

          Brian

Depending on the code written on the belt they may be obtainable from the US for around £40 or so.

I have a Rockwell 10" with a similar system and can't get the tension to stay the same.

Hi John I might be late in replying to this post but I have just replaced the belt on my Little John lathe.

After a lot of searching I contacted George Lodge and Sons Ltd 01482 329553 and spoke to Dave Fuller, he was very helpful full. The original belt was apparently made for Raglan and looked like a wide Vee belt the dimmention are outside circumference 31.5 inches x 7/8 x3/8 thick the replacement is VSB 22 x 8 x 725. £33_00 However if the motor and mount is non standard be carefull that the motor spindel center is as per handbook. Although l have my had my lathe for 40 years I noticed that the belt was rubbing on the operating forks at certain speeds. The motor was to low and I made a modified mounting plate and spacer so I used a longer belt VSB 22 x 8 x 725.this solved the problem and the lathe runs very well. I also had to modif the motor operating fork. The speed range 1500 rpm to 300 rpm but this is proberly be cause the motor pulley was missing when I first obtain the lathe and I made my own but did not have access to any dimensions. If you require any more info let me know.

                  Regards Pete
