Additional to the smaller version, here is its bigger brother.
This one is used for the larger drills, 4mm and up, endmills ( ends only so far..), lathe cutters, etc. Also used with CBN and Diamond wheels only. The XY table is an Old British job, obtained at a Steam Engine Fair in Petermaritzburg, in South Africa, maybe 35 years ago…heavy, solid, no leadscrew play and a pleasure to use. The vertical column is from a milling attachment for an Emco Maximat V10P. The Motor is a 3phase motor with a VFD. The tool holder sort of 'evolved' from reading how others have done it, making it and modding it till it did what I want. The spindle is shop made, 18mm main shaft, deep groove ZZ bearings, preloaded gently. The spindle housing is aluminium. The spindle can be raised and lowered, rotated in azimuth and elevation. It has a taper into which the balanced wheels fit, with a drawbar. Spindle drive pulleys are Multi-V belts. A swing-out arm holds a multitude of setting devices to set tool centers, limits, etc.
Trust you find the pics at least amusing…
