Hi all, I would appreciate any information on filing machines. I have heard of Thiel machines and found some images on the web, but I am sure there are other makes, British perhaps? I am off to collect one tomorrow and when I find the maker I will be able to request information apecifically about that one. I want to use needle files and think I will have to make my own mounts for them.
        Regards,

Harold Hall wrote a construction article for a filing machine starting in MEW 161, March 2010.
One of the segments had suggestions for adapting hand files; another had sources for purchasing machine files.

MEW 155 also had a die filer on the cover but I don’t believe that a formal article with drawings followed.
The Workshop Practice Series #31 also has construction drawings and notes.
Popular Mechanics had an article: “Mechanics of Machine Filing” in the July 1943 issue.
          You can obtain it from

At the same url you can obtain plans to construct several machines: look at Feb 1941, Oct 1947, Mar 1957.

Searches on other machining forums, for example, Home Model Engine Machinist & Home Shop Machinist will certainly provide many threads. Don’t have an urls, tho’.

I collected the unit on Sunday, it looks like a Milwaukee filing machine but has no manufacturers marks or plates.

It also looks like a “New Wonder” filing machine, one of which has just popped up on ebay. If anyone has any information or better yet a handbook for either machine I would be grateful.

I am going to strip and refurb the unit so need as much information as possible.

            Cheers,

Also any ideas on file suppliers for the type of files involved, I know I can modify handfiles but would love to have some of the “proper thing” to work off.

              Regards

I searched for months to find a supplier rather than businesses that would make them, for a price.

The place I eventually found to supply me some is here.

Go down this post to see how I got to that site
