Drive belt for my lathe

I’m needing a new belt , the belt measures 16mm Wide x 720mm long . Can any clever people tell where I can source one from , I’ve tried several places up here whee I stay with on luck . I’ve been told it could be a B belt (never heard of one called that)

Dimensions are in my thread 16mm Wide 720mm long and it’s for the pulleys behind the chuck to the pulleys . And it’s a vee belt I require

There is still insufficient information to advise on….

If you look at the website linked to, you will see there are different belt sections/profiles and other characteristics…

What machine is the belt for?

Hi sean,
You did not say that it was a V belt in your original post. You have a length of 720 mm. Is this the inside ot outside length ? I am assuming the belt is a "B" section V belt. I came up with the same supplier as Speedy Builder5. This is the page of the website that I ended up on. I An guessing that it is a B25.5 belt that you want on the assumption that it is the outside length that you have given. This is a cheaper source.

Sean- I usually go round the local tractor shops and garages etc., take the old belt of course. The older firms are usually the best. Can take some time but you get to know the area. bear in mind the belt you have may not be the correct one.

Yeh I was told it was a ‘B’ belt ,I measured on a belt measuring gadget at work , it also gave me the number 6280 beside the measurement.

If its an imperial machine which i guess it is then the length will be inches and it will be the inside measurement if you can find the correct length for the lathe stated anywhere.

If its not a critical length then you could guess an average length.

If the pulleys are smaller than 125mm ,i would use a bX belt with cogs.

Is it this belt between the spindle and countershaft?

Your lathe is so similar to mine I thought is was mine .
Maybe your the chap to quiz on how to remove the shaft to get the belt in . Am I right in thinking the shaft come out the chuck end . I’ve noticed the two little pinch bolts on the opposite end from the chuck between the cog and bearing . I apologise for my nievity but this lathe is on a whole new different level to the baby ml3 .

The easy way to avoid spindle removal(s) is to buy a link type belt.

Not many good reviews regarding linked belt ,for peace of mind I'm just going to fit the proper belt

The good quality link belts are OK (the ones with the metal studs). They can be fitted without having to dismantle the headstock, something which is best avoided if possible. I believe it is called Nutlink, I have used this on several machines without problems. Best bought from an industrial belt/transmission component supplier but you have to pay the price for quality. Pulling the headstock spindle is a fairly major undertaking for a beginner. Is the old belt totally unusable and absolutely must be replaced for teh lathe to work? If not, I would leave it alone. Or try the good quality link belt alternative.

The actual mechanics of stripping it doesn?t worry me in the slightest . Just not keen on disturbing the bearings and how it set up
