Depth Guage

I have a 1-2 inch depth gauge but I need a zero to 1 inch. I have searched Moor and Wrights website and ebay but cannot find anybody selling these. Cannot find the rods on any of the sights that I have searched through. The rod measures 3.12mm / 123 thousands of inch (diameter). Does anybody know where these can be obtained.

I have several depth micrometers and over the last 50 years have only once bought a replacement rod. This was for a Starrett make, the price bears no relation to what you get. I suggest you will be better off buying a new depth mic. Look out for offers with the likes of MSC.

Would you consider making a rod from a piece of 1/8” silver steel? The only problem is to make the end square and flat, I thought about drilling a hole in a block and lapping the end but whether this would make a serious metrology tool I don’t know, but it might be ok if the odd tenth is not critical.

Just check the diameter of the ones in the link, the only depth gauges they now sell have thicker rods than yours.
