I ordered some bits from CPC at about 1330 yesterday, they were delivered at 1101 this morning and were easy to track on the UPS site. That's what I call service especially as it was standard delivery at no charge. The best was from a company, I can't remember the name, who when you logged onto the tracking site actually showed where the delivery van was and gave an estimated delivery time.

That's DPD… Many times they even give you the name of the driver who is going to deliver to you. DPD set this standard a while back. Other couriers such as UPS and Parcel Force are starting to catch up…when they call us to sell us their service, they say…'now even we can give DPD type of notification service'… But they still have some way to go to catch up… in my opinion.

DPD costs us more then the others… But for us it is better as less consoignments go walkabout, and the cost of chasing such events is costly.

That may well be the case for you, but over the previous couple of weeks, UPS have (apparently) lost a parcel addressed to my wife, then delivered a replacement three days later than promised. Carp service, if you were to ask me!

Many parcels arrive within, or around, 24 hours. Mostly via Royal Mail, but not exclusively – but when delivery is delayed, non existent or improper (items left laying around) the system falls into disrepute. The sooner the contract between supplier/courrier/recipient is enforced with enforced contract default compensation, the sooner the laggards will either catch up or go out of business.

Ordered some items from Holland & Barrett, they were despatched with Hermes, received an email from Hermes confirming that they had been delivered – but they hadn't been delivered to my address.. Later that day received a telephone call from a lady in a neighbouring street that she had our parcel which had been left at her address, same number house – wrong street. Holland & Barrett were very good over the issue but I would never choose Hermes to deliver anything, they give the appearance that they couldn't care what happens. Only ever had positive experiences with DPD, their local driver very friendly and efficient, they give an email with one hour delivery slot, always arrive within 10 minutes of the beginning of the time slot, first class service.

I have had a delivery van driver (can't remember the company), phone me up & say they have tried to find me without luck, can I give directions? This from a van parked across our garage door, 15ft from the front door.

Our village has about 50 houses, one street and no numbers, only names for the houses. Must be a nightmare. Originally our house had its name on a plaque at first floor level, where the drivers never saw it. Now we have it painted in 4" high gold lettering on the fanlight above the front door as well, where they also never see it. crook

              Regards,

              Richard.

After being made redundant; for six months I worked as a parcels courier for Interlink (A franchise operation).

Obviously, companies will vary, (as will each Depot and courier) in their efficiency and conscientiousness. Lack of care could result in damage to a consignment, at any stage of the process.

Everyday was a stressful 13 hour one, very often needing to be somewhere else 5 minutes ago, for a desperately urgent collection. Sometimes, the address was anything but clear, or obviously marked.

If a parcel was delivered a day late, it was only because an error by one of the couriers. Every item was scanned onto the vehicle, and off, with a handheld scanner, (PLUS a receipt signature) the results being downloaded at days end to confirm delivery.

Some deliveries were "timed", and theoretically had to be delivered by 0900. Try that when you have three, for destinations in places each some 15 -20 miles form the others! But barring the odd acceident, everything got there the same day as it arrived at the depot. The worst problem was folk who did not know the difference between Bourn in Cambridgeshire and Bourne in Lincolnshire, and then complained of delivery a day late!

Update on UPS saga. Yet another parcel should have arrived today. It did not. Been in all day long. Apparently 'out for delivery' was its status, according to the sender. UPS is clearly not our current favourite courrier!

People should use Prometheus and be guaranteed daily de-livery

                            Conclusion to UPS saga.

Both parcels arrived today, but not until some complaining.

I rang the local agent and enquired what had happened to my parcel which was 'out for deivery' yesterday. They were good enough to ring me back, telling me they had it and supplying the tracking number.

After a chat room conversation with a helpful lady, I was given a link which actually had a phone number! I was then told they could deliver it on the 4th of next month! At which point I gave them a 'blast', informing them that we were in residence all day yesterday, that the door bell was working, that no note was left to say they had tried to deliver, that the dog would have barked at anyone at the door. In short, if the delivery vehicle had a tracking device they could very likely be able to see that the vehicle never even came near our road! That unless I had rung the agent, I would have not known it was there for collection!

Lady would look into it and said they would ring back within the hour. In only a short time a phone call was received to say that it would be delivered today, and it was.

Simply not good enough service. Someone clearly needs taking to task! Shoddy service and no redress!

As the OP , I should like to report the original parcel containing my Reilang oilcan turned up today 2 weeks late through the Hermes system, with the original date and tracking no. on the label , although the Hermes site "mysteriously" shows the "collection" date from the supplier as the 29th September.

In regards to courier choice Caveat Emptor !

We had a Hermes delivery that 'was delivered to a safe place', so far we haven't found the place but we did get the replacement!

Or Parcel Post where we got the note through the door, the driver must have had running shoes on as no sight of him when I got to the door!

Normally I have not had any issues with delivery, but recently due a death in the family I had not been home to accept deliveries. UPS and one other courier which I cannot remember will after 2 missed deliveries will leave your package at convenience store near location. This I find brilliant, as normally courier depots are miles from your home. I understand that Amazon are tying up with Morrisons to do a similar thing.

Running shoes I can understand, it's the drivers who creep up in carpet slippers and knock on the door with a sponge who really annoy me. Joking aside, I have used Hermes for collections, deliveries and drop-offs at the local corner shop without any problems. What is really annoying is the number of eBay sellers and couriers who stick a surcharge on for delivery to the Isle of Wight when Royal Mail and Hermes don't charge any extra.

Hermes have struck again!! Waiting for a delivery of two parcels from John Lewis received two emails from Hermes stating that the items had been delivered, unfortunately not to our address. This was a repeat of previous episodes where correctly addressed items had been delivered to an address in a nearby street, it seems Hermes operatives are unable to correctly read addresses and postcodes, they are a Rubbish organisation unsurprisingly they have no consumer service department that you can contact either by phone or email, I wonder why? I had to retrieve my parcels when I realised where they had ended up, emailed John Lewis and told them Hermes is damaging their image and if they continue to use them for deliveries then I will not order online from them. I suppose you have to expect the type of service from Hermes when you realise they use part timers using their own cars for deliveries, not very professional set up, obviously a cheapskate outfit.

Their recent proof of 'our attempted delivery' was a photo of a Piri Piri shop (that is further down the road) and her package. Seems like they employ idiots who don't give a monkeys.

John Lewis apologised for the parcels being mis-delivered and offered twenty pound gift card for the inconvenience, rude not to accept..Further development this evening, Hermes driver called round with profuse apologies for his mistake in delivering to the wrong address and admitted that he was responsible for a previous wrong delivery of one our parcels. In mitigation English is not his first language he speaks the second most common language of the UK, – Polish. Hopefully he will now recognise where we've live, remains to be seen if Hermes can sort it in the future.

Try living in the far North of Scotland, I can get delivers from Cornwall ( 4 wheels) for £35 two day delivery! but Inverness 75 miles away want an arm and a leg for most things. Must say that Royal Mail do sometimes astound me, a motorcycle tyre from the midlands ordered at three o'clock on a Friday afternoon saw it swinging on the postman,s shoulder coming up the path at midday the next day.

America two days, Hong Kong four days, London twenty seven days.

Best one was a free CD from Microsoft in America, delivered to Stornoway, taken back to Glasgow, both times past my front door and then back to my local post office where I was asked for £15 because the post office had opened it to inspect the contents, needless to say I declined the 'free' CD.

Still not here, tracking shows it was picked up at 7-30 thursday morning, so it's just going round the country in the back of a van. Can not get hold of these people of course.

Royal Mail seem to be variable depending on which region you live in, Parcelforce and parcel deliveries here in the south-east are generally very good but if I send anything first class to my daughter in Wigan it takes 5 days, makes a mockery of next day delivery if sent first class.
