For a potential future project I would have to fabricate locomotive cylinders from silver soldered bar stock. Should I use brass or bronze.

In my limited experience, it is 'reliably' easier to silver solder bronze … The zinc in the brass makes it difficult sometimes [N.B. There are numerous grades of both; so your experience may differ.]

Depends on how much use it is likely to get. If its mostly display then brass will be ok but if it will see action then definitely bronze.
