Colchester oiling points help

I recently took delivery of a roundhead Colchester Master lathe.

Being fairly new to machine tool 'ownership' I'm not sure what to do with these button type oiling points? Do I need an oil gun?

I have only owned a Myford ML7, which has the raised nipples that take a pump action oil gun.

Also, is an oiler in such a condition inoperable?

That's buggered. And not std issue. New imperial ball oilers available from RDG and metric versions from Arc Euro. Not expensive.

Normal oil can for lube.

My students got the same oilers as that one I just use a pump oil can.

When i wanted a load of oilers I got them from the nipple shop. Not sure how they compare to the above suppliers on price/quality, but were fine for my lathe.

Thanks chaps. How should I remove said oiler? I assume they are just a press fit in plain holes?

I just made tapered plugs for mine leaving the original oiler's in as per your picture ,that was over 30 yrs ago.

Op's piccy is standard issue nothing wrong with it same as my Harrison.
Cross slide i have one nipple open, so put finger over as i pump the carriage plunger.

Just use an oil can press in then squirt, job done.
Other areas do have a ball and need same oil can pressure or wont feed in.

Really? Never seen a red ball oiler like that on all the Colchesters I worked on. Where's the ball? Anodized red aluminium?

Heres the balls under spring pressure perfectly standard issue. Another under DRO slide raised like OP's!
