A beauty that but I genuinely get a nauseous feeling every time I see a machine with a chuck key left in it like that. Touch wood I've never had the misfortune to forget one but it would be so easy to press one of those inviting buttons!

At work we have a hole in a whiteboard that we leave on purpose, it was made by a chuck key that was left in, and missed someone’s head by about 3 inches, so it’s left as a reminder

During my time at college many years ago (early 60's) I left a chuck key in on the lathe I was using and started it up, the key flew at great speed the length of the machine shop, fortunately it missed all the other students and collided with the far wall; The instructor gave me a severe verbal lashing and as a consequence I am fanatical about stowing chuck keys away from the chucks even though modern lathes have guards which prevent lathes starting with keys in the lathe. We do learn from mistakes!

I have a thing about the camlocks on the lathes that we use after a story from a good friend of mine, he was serving his time with BAE many moons ago, and on the rotation they had to do 6 months in the machine shop, his first day they had had the basic induction, then left to do a simple task, he turned the lathe on, off came the chuck, rolled the full length of the workshop, strait into the formans office, touched his desk and felt on its side, that was his only day in there and ended up as an aircraft electrician 😂😂

Could any one with a cl500m help in wiring up the nvr switch as the drawing from Machine Mart is not good.my schematic in the link if any of you could finish it

Can you identify which wires are the start wires on the motor plz?

Or conversely which is the run wires……

 

I have a sketch on how to connect all this up, but the motor is the missing piece of the puzzle……

The photo I got, in a windowless un-lit building, by the residual daylight shining through the door at 5.30pm, actually adds nothing to John's wiring diagram above, and possibly confuses the issue as most of the wires are black. So I won't post it.

So, I decided I'd do a narrative too……

240 v mains enters the nvr relay at terminals 14 and 24. The other side of these contacts, 13 and 23, carry the supply through to the other set of contacts, into terminals 33 and 43. The outgoing side of these terminals 34 and 44 now carry 240 v feeding the Run winding of the motor and also feeds the fwd/Rev switch for the Start winding, entering the switch at terminals 12 and 22. Straps from these terminals go across to 21 and 11 and are crossed over as shown on the drawing, this gives the fwd/rev action and the motor Start winding is connected to the centre terminals, 20 and 10.

With no power applied, all the nvr switch contacts are open, applying power and pressing the start button closes the contacts, the coil is energised by power fed from terminals 13 and 23 thus causing the nvr to latch.

Removing the power denergises the coil, and opening the contacts. Pressing the stop button opens the contacts and de-energises the coil.

Some would say the second set of contacts is superfluous, but it provides added safe guard from stuck contacts….

I think thats right?……. I aint no enjineer….
