Cast iron / metal suppliers

Has anyone got any good suppliers of cast iron? I ideally need 3 5″ square mild steel and a 3″ cast iron billet for cylinders. Any ideas chaps?

I use M-Machine Metals for cast iron sections. As yet I've only bought rounds up to 130mm diameter, with no problems. The supplied cast iron machines beautifully.

College Engineering Supplies, not the cheapest but a wide range. Cut to size available.

Try your local engineering shop, I recently got a 3″wide x 8″ diameter chunk from mine less than ?50.

I recently (last week) bought 3 x 1 inch lengths of 4 inch diameter cast iron from South West Steam Miniture Engineering for 5 pounds each plus 5 pounds for carriage.

The price per inch was quite a bit lower than the usual suspects and the carriage also reasonable.

I made the purchase through ebay but I daresay they take orders direct. I had some questions and got them answered promptly (e.g. if I ordered 3 inches could I have 3 one inches and not one 3 inch…).

I'm planing to scrape a Whitworth plate when time permits. Back with results in 2018…..

Can't add much as I have used all three of the suggested suppliers. South West even supplied me with a longer length rather than cut to what I ordered at no extra cost to save them having to cut it. College I usually pick up at a show if I can.

This year I have made patterns for a lathe cross slide and various other parts and had them cast at a foundry at more than reasonable prices. I have also had aluminium castings made at a different foundry also very cost effective. An advantage of being based in the Midlands !
