hi, does anyone know if one of the after market power feed units will fit a series 2 bridgeport spcial, it has an 11" wide table. it is for the x axis. worried that the bolt holes might not match the casting supplied. gary

Hi Gary the power feed units are available to go straight on to a Bridgeport mill with little or no modification. Ask the suplier to make sure you get the one to suit your mill.

I can confirm what David has already stated. The power feed unit I purchased from Warco with my VMC mill came complete with a casting to mount directly to a Bridgeport. No modifications appear to be necessary and full instructions were included in the kit.

Have no measurements but the flange and bolt hole arrangements certainly look the same. Table overhang width wise looks right for 11" table as opposed to standard 9".

Easiest check is to measure the flange width for the existing hand wheel bearing. Using a retracting tape you will get near enough 7 1/2" maximum width.

Um, didn't the series 2 special come with 6 or 8 F powerfeed on the X axis as standard. If yours has one make sure you get the right fitting kit with the extension shaft included. Best to get one of the higher powered versions from a known brand. Some of the inexpensive ones are more than a little wimpy on the power side. Basic drive boxes tend to be common to many machine fitments so something quite adequate on a smaller machine may not be up to the job.

Dunno what you use it for but do remember the series 2 machines are much heftier than a series 1, table capacity 1,500 lb compared to 750, so everything is that much stiffer and harder to move.

                  Hi Gary

Apologies if you are already up to speed on this but have you considered simply having the 8F parts re-conditioned.

The late OEM style Servo brand units are very expensive.

If the control board is Erskine / Quantum these can be re-furbished for around £100 exchange. I have contact details for Quantum, Sorted UK claim to do the Erskine for similar money. Built in 8F boards are I, understand, an issue but if its the usual brushed motor I understand it runs OK on an Erskine of Quantum board. I have a stash of Erskine boards needing reconditioning available cheaply. (Was going to do them but, frankly, not worth the effort nowadays.)

Also Advanced Machinery Services, part of WADKIN BURSGREEN, Skeffington Mill, Leicester, Leicestershire LE7 9YE claim to have lots of Bridgeport parts and expertise.
