      Hi

Does anyone know where I can get some 1mm thick CZ121 brass sheet?

Up to now I have been using CZ108, which is rather hit and miss. I’ve had CZ108 from Macc Models which machined ok. Recently I acquired some from Rapid Metals, which I’m sure is fine for its intended purpose, but machined very poorly.

Macc models to have some 1.5mm CZ121, but really that’s too thick and too expensive for my purposes.

I need to CNC profile, chamfer and engrave it. See Link

      Any leads welcome.

      Steve

You could try https://www.clockmaking-brass.co.uk/brass_sheet_cz120.htmL (yes, I know it says cz120).  Does it have to be 1mm?  I have bought 1.5mm from Ian in the past and it CNC machines beautifully.

I’ve recently bought bar from https://www.metalsupermarkets.co.uk/product/brass-sheet-cz121/ and they list 1mm sheet too.

CZ121 is the usual alloy for extruded section – round, flat, hex, etc and not what you tend to find sheet made from.

CZ120 is what is known as engraving brass so that should do you as the spec is very close to 121. M-machine have that in sheet down to 18swg (1.2mm) and you can always skim the top off with teh CNC which I have done in the past for nameplates. Or College engineering go down to 20g (1mm)

I can confirm that CZ120 engraving brass machines beautifully as it contains 2% lead; clean and no burrs:

            Washout_Plates

Plates CNC milled with a 0.5mm diameter cutter and painted with etch prime followed by coach enamel.

Track Metals are a Brum-based non-ferrous supplier and have an Ebay store – they will have CZ120 in the thickness you want.

No connection other than as a satisfied customer.

I do like that m-machine catalogue… proper old school! Everything in imperial. I think I should try to buy from them on general principle.

They also have a lot more METRIC stock than many of the other hobby friendly suppliers.

Not sure if ordering is going to be Old School, I e-mail them a list of what I want, they e-mail back an itemised invoice with postage and I do an electronic bank transfer to pay. Tracking to my phone or PC

None of that send a cheque with hopefully the right amount of postage and you did not have to send some stamps and an SAE to get the catalogue😁

Well maybe “Old School with a modern twist” then. But you know what I mean. It just needs the pricing to be old school too in shillings and pence.

I love those old catalogues. I have many vintage woodworking tools and it’s fascinating to see the world how it was 100+ years ago. Much less different than one might think.

edit – see around p. 268 for lathes
