Bermuda bell / foot operated gong

I have started to build the "Steam Traction World" Lykamobile series 2 steam car. The parts for the main chassis arrived just in time for Xmas. Just looking ahead a bit… I fancy a foot operated gong/bell known as a "Bermuda bell" rather than a steam whistle. Some of the original 1901 Locomobile cars use that sort of bell. Looking around the internet, I found a firm in Portugal which makes new bells at around £200 a clang! Any ideas , drawings or suggestions as to the making or acquiring a serviceable bell?

Having looked up what this is my immediate reaction is to look at hotel reception 'dingers' for an adaption/ideas

What size of bell would be required ?

… something like one of the old 'school-yard' handbells might be about right as a starting point.

Extension telephone bell, about 4" diameter, theres one under my bench if you want to come and get it, well maybe not, a bit far to walk.

If not too large, would the gong from a rotary fire alarm be suitable (although it would need drilling for the centre operating rod)? Alternately, although shipping adds a bit, the signal bells formerly used in US filling stations are common on eBay.

Only concern is, would a bell be legal on a new-build vehicle? I understood that they were reserved for emergency vehicles.

Thanks for your replies. The steam car is not subject to IVA regs so the rules about a bell/horn do not apply. The Fire alarm bell idea is one that might bear fruit. I need it to be foot operated with a ding on the down stroke and a dong on the spring return. About 120 to 150mm dia would be the size to go for.
