I’ve now pretty much got as far as I want to go with my foundry setup. This last video shows the refinements I’ve made to my process and setup over the last six months. The system will take an A4 crucible(0.75 litre brim-full) which is about the most I’m comfortable with handling by myself. It's good for aluminium, brass, and bronze. I've not tried iron, but I think I would struggle. As before the video shows a casting unrelated to model engineering, but all the principles are transferable.

I’ll also make the same warnings as before. You really do need to do the research before trying this out and make sure you understand both the obvious dangers (it’s hot) and hidden dangers (zinc fumes are very bad!). But if you understand the risks, are comfortable with them and take the appropriate measures, then it’s well worth a go and compared to the price of machine tooling actually quite cheap to get setup.

My next project is an Edgar Westbury Wyvern build where I will be making the castings myself , and I’ll be sure to show the video. It might be a while though.

So what does the capacity break down to?……..what is the weight of the casting please?…..presumably specific weight of brass x 0.75ltr must allow for runners etc(?)

I’ll admit I did melt down new fittings, buy I was in a rush to get it cast that day!

In total, and including the runners and the sprue there is 175ml of brass which is very roughly 1.5 kg. About 2/3 of that is the finished item, and the remainder runners and sprues.
