Your 7 1/4 track incline

My club track has a pretty intense incline which my tiny loco struggles with. Do others have a level or inclined track? I would love to run without the complication of hills!

My local track, which I really try not to complain about until I can retire and work on its issues:

Construction: Elevated track, wooden posts into ground.

Some posts lift due to ice heave. (it gets cold where I live)

1) Inter-post gradients such that my little locomotive can not climb.

2) Transitions between frost heave and non-frost heave post sections is sharp. My larger locomotive, long wheelbase, derails because the axlebox travel is not enough to go over these transitions.

So, if I want to run my little locomotives, pack'em up and drive to another club. Not a complaint! I'm not out at the work days fixing it, as I'm working to fill the retirement account, so I have no basis to complain.

Warrington has gradient nominally 1:100 end to end, short length of 1:80 (only about 10 ft and you get a run at it). Not running at the moment as the extension isn't quite finished, but you're welcome to come and pay us a visit. At the rate of progress being achieved it won't be long, hopefully before the bad weather stops vehicle access. Weather permitting we're there working on Wednesdays. Just thought, we're 5" and 3.5", so if you're 7.25" you'd be wasting your time. Still welcome to visit of course. If you are 7.25 you could try High Legh Garden Centre, their track is flat as the proverbial witches appendage, or Mid Cheshire at Blakemere (junction of A49 and A556)

Used to be as flat as a pancake but cold …. well that was another matter.

Depends on how north you are in the west. Leyland has an impressive 7 1/4 ground level as has Lancaster and Morecambe at Cinderbarrow. If you are seriously north then Carlisle has a raised 7 1/4" gauge railway.
