hi everyone, im new to the forum and would like advice on how to wire my hoover motor on my myford lathe.

Welcome James,

I'm afraid that's got more terminals than mine, It could be 3-phase,. or it could be to allow reversing.

Your insulation looks OK, but have a good look as older ones can have rubber insulated wires that perish and start fires.

For anyone who finds a simpler arrangement of connections (just 3) my single phase one is (don't follow these connections James!):

Live – 4

Neutral – 3

Earth – marked terminal on outside of case.

Capacitor 2 & 3

The red and green wires on mine go to the capacitor switch.

Hi James,
I may be able to help but you will need to do some tests to identify the winding and centrifugal switch contacts. Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it ? Do you have a way to spin the motor up to near its rated speed ? (A suitable electric drill for example.) Does the motor have connections to the back of the terminal plate ? (If so make a diagram of these.) Does the motor have one or two capacitors on it ? What is behind the lump on the terminal block between the middle two terminals on the bottom row ?

How strange, your motor has the same serial number as mine, James.
