Where to buy dowel pins in small quantities

Hi guys

Does anyone know where I can buy imperial sized hardened dowel pins in small quantities?

I literally just need a couple of 7/32 dia by 5/8 long. I don't fancy buying a 100 @ £25. 😔

Try Accu.co.uk. I have purchased small quantities of dowel pins from them but not hardened. Worth a look.

Google is your friend? I found 2 companies selling these in small numbers in first 3 searches. One had a delivery charge of a fiver and I didn't look for your particular size but you might have to compromise on diameter. Might find 5.5mm easier than 7/32”?

I can't compromise on size unfortunately. What are the sites you found? I can only find the sizes I need at boneham. Minimum delivery is £7 which seems a lot for 2 pins.

There is an advertiser on eBay who is offering 7/16" x 1" dowel pins at £2.05 for a pack of 5 with £2.20 additional postage, if you can reduce the length with a Dremel or similar?

I bought some last year from WDS components but not that size and it seems they don't have 7/32" they do however sell single units upwards.

Have you considered using silver steel and harden it ? The problem is the tolerance may not suit you and there is a possibility of distortion after hardening however considering the short length its likely to be less of a problem ! All depends on the actual use.

Trouble with mail order of small quantities of inexpensive things is that you are basically paying for them being on the shelf and the work of picking, packing and posting. Not the things themselves.

I guess £7 buys you about 10 minutes of person time plus p&p which isn't unreasonable for a firm that isn't highly organised for pick, pack'n post Amazon style.The work involved is pretty much the same for 2,000 as it is for 2. Just a bigger box.

That's exactly how it works.

But how is the expense any different from driving to the next town to your 'local' supplier who will charge you £0.73 each for the three that you need? Your time isn't free either…

I'd try that first before even considering purchase. Macc Models do 7/32, and all sizes I've had from them have been within a tenth or so. If you need them hard, probably best quench them endwise – but you might know that better than I do.

Delivery charge shouldn't be an excuse to inflate the price. This weeks purchases were both post free. One took 2 days, other overnight. First a D/G window locking mechanism, £6 saving over exactly the same item available less than ten miles away. Second, U/V activated glue, even on Flee, a price variation of up to £4.

Had a couple of more than 1 hour trips recently to collect bits ( Thanks Windy, most enjoyable visit – was yaking for 3 1/2 hrs ), but was great to hear the car getting excited that it was going more than the Thursday "Chicken run" to the local supermarket.
