I've just watched a short film [which we recorded from 'Talking Pictures TV']

If you can stand the excruciating rhyming voice-over, it's well worth watching:

Thank You all for the kind words on my V10 re-furb efforts…

George, the paint is a 'special' – Sigmadur 500, an Acrylic Polyurethane 2 part Epoxy paint. Ditto the primer, an Acid Wash Epoxy primer. Actually both marine paints able to withstand minor Nuclear attack…Green colour is standard RAL0601, Red is ..Signal Red..

The red was to break the mass of green -And EMCO use red in there new machines as well…Although, not so much green anymore..

              oblique.jpg

              Thanks again.

              Regards

I will make these the last pics of my V10 re-furb – All done now, and I am sure folk are now quite bored with these pics…

Front view, with Swing down viewing guard in place. DRO fitted, but X Axis Rotary encoder still to be fitted..

                front1058.jpg

'Electronic' controls for threading, auto feed, etc all fitted.

                Control Consoles

                op_console1064.jpg

Feed/Threading Stepper motor still to be wired in to control box below it.

                right1067.jpg

Well, it was a fun journey. The alignment of headstock turned out very well indeed, so I am looking forward to using what is now basically a brand new lathe!

                Thanks for indulging me..

                Regards

Only boring ting about seeing mill's n lathes is the use of drills n mills to do boring Joe.

Some time ago, I managed to bust a tap in a soft arbour. Today, I finally got fed up with looking at it so I removed it. nothing special but that's what I did.

Yesterday I made a captive ring thingy and captive nut thingy. Nothing special, no happy proud snaps. That's what I did.

                      Simple things please minds?

Words may well have been by John Betjeman, it was of the right vintage (1954).

Spent a pleasant couple of hours designing then fabricating a new exhaust pipe and muffler for a 25cc strimmer motor in my 'diesel' loco. Needed because the hood is quite narrow and the standard item is too wide to fit in. All made from 1.2mm steel recycled from an old barbeque stand, lots of odd shapes and fiddly stick welding using 2mm electrodes but so far gas-tight and not looking too cruddy. Not worth a photo 'til its on the engine.

Morning spent clearing the veranda of all so tomorrow the fellow who has to come access the pre-drilled holes through concrete can spray for white ants. Its much required barrier soaking right round the footpath areas here last for 5 years?

Not quite engineering related, but almost:-

Did some weedkillering, then removed the shuttering from a recently cast retaining wall. Then spent the rest of the day glazing a greenhouse frame.

Engineering related bit:- The wheels that support the doors have axles made from turned hexagon brass shoulder bolts. For some reason the retaining nuts are M5 but the hex bar itself is 11.3mm AF, which is 3/16"W / 1/4" BSF. The correct spanners were, of course, used smiley.

Didn't quite get finished because I ran out of daylight at 21:00.

Started my Hemingway rotary broach kit yesterday.

Looking forward to hopefully getting it done by sunday!

Hi, today I went to Doncaster MEX, but yesterday I made a small modification to my 4" Soba rotary table and cleaned out all the old tacky grease inside it also. The mod was just adding a additional zero index point, as I find the position of the one that Soba has engraved into the casting, most inconvenient. All I did was to cut a piece of 1mm thick St/St., shaped it a bit at the top and engraved a short line on it and drilled a couple of 3mm fixing holes. I then drilled and tapped the bottom of the RT casting just to the left of the operating handle, the top mm or so of the new index was then knocked over with a brass hammer so that it came close to the graduations on the edge of the table. The assembly was then re-greased and re-assembled and adjusted for minimum backlash.

                                                    RT Mod 01.jpg

You can see the original zero index to the right of the operating handle, near the 40 degree graduation above.

                                                    RT Mod 02.jpg

                                                    Regards Nick.
