I had a bit of a tool stall yesterday and now notice the Y axis is now tight. So i backed off the gib adjustment and all is well however what puzzles me it now sticks out by about 5-10mm and if i try to put it back to where it was the axis is tight.  The gib on the WM18 is by means of screws either end of the gib instead of the usual screws and nuts pushing on the gib

hope this makes sense and does anyone know why it went tight. Btw i have checked the lead screw and its nice a free

I would have a look at the gib strip. It easy to remove, has it been damaged or bent around the screw adjustment area. Clean around the area before removing have a good look at the screw itself in case it is bent and I have a thin strip of material, brass I think, which I put a strip of cotton material to clean down such areas. Having cleaned try and shine a light from the back and inspect the way and if all ok lube with slideway oil and reassemble. Put a dial indicator on the saddle against a parrallel etc clamped and wind it back one forward to check for play. Let us know what you find as many don't and I wonder if it is fixed. Pictures help.

            Hi David

            thanks for the reply

so far i have removed the gib strip and examined it for burs and straightness. All seems as it should be

i have also cleaned the area as you recommended

just about to oil and reassemble however the gib strip does not go as far in as it used to. Protruding by about 5mm. I did a video when i first got the mill, 2017, as it not sticking out as much then. Also because its sticking out 5 mill the screw at the head end bottoms before touching the end of the gib
