      Thanks Jason, that’s really worth knowing and makes sense – glad I asked ‘cos I’m sure I wouldn’t have left enough on port faces etc.

      If you were to do it in one heat would you lay some solder under the passage / block first or just feed in from the top?

        I have never placed solder between two parts, and seldom place a piece on the work either. I just feed the rod in when the flux flows.

        You could add a few very light punch marks to one of the mating surfaces, the small amount of raised metal around the marks will leave a tiny gap for the solder to flow into. A piece or two of soft iron wire can be twisted around the cylinder to hold the parts in place.
